Noisy flights issues

Noisy helicopter flights, particularly at night and in the early morning, continue to disturb local residents.

We understand that aircraft must be 1000ft above the ground over residential areas, if over the sea and more than 600m horizontally from any built-up areas then the height limit is 500ft.

The St Mary’s Bay Association will investigate this further and consider whether to contact to Civil Aviation Authority, but we understand from earlier inquiries that the jurisdiction of the Civil Aviation Authority covers only the vicinity of airports. It has already suggested that noise complaints be taken up with the individual aircraft operators, but identifying specific aircraft is a problem. Auckland Council has no authority over aircraft noise.
